video ♚ i
— Thank you.
[ The video catches the tail end of a conversation, with two men shaking hands and parting ways after. The older one is familiar to some, probably — one of the escorts for the new arrivals, just doing his job to help. The younger, the owner of the device it seems, is definitely not native, his clothes the biggest indicator, like he stepped out of some wild tv fantasy drama.
But then the device is turned to Edmund's face, and he waves shortly, just a flick of his wrist, awkward in that he definitely has no idea what he's doing. He doesn't quite smile, but he makes an effort not to look unfriendly. ]
My apologies, to my... audience? [ By the Lion, that is so weird to say to some weird box that apparently helps to communicate with others. ] I asked for help in figuring out how to use this contraption — he was certainly kind about it. He mentioned that plenty of other individuals would have difficulty using the first time around. I suppose he didn't tell me that just to make me feel better.
[ Which he isn't, but that's a differently story. ]
In any case, I am looking for certain people. Three, really. Peter, Susan, or Lucy Pevensie. If any one of them is here, I would deeply appreciate being pointed to them.
[ He'd thought about asking about the others, Mr Tumnus, the Beavers, or even Aslan. But he has had time to watch his surroundings, and there are more humans here than animals, and somehow, he can't fathom that there would be Animals. Besides, in a troubling situation such as this, at least one of his siblings would be in the midst of the chaos. ]
If not, then — my name is Edmund. A ple— [ a thoughtful pause, then finally, a small amused smile. ] I suppose it's not quite a pleasure to meet your acquaintances, since I've yet to meet any of you at all.

[ He's already made her cry, which is a new record even for them. ]
Tell me, how did you meet my sister?
When I first got here, we were in school together. Science class.
[ Matthew's smile practically glows with fondness. Lucy offered him her friendship the very first day they met. She's an incredible person and he really does adore her. ]
Oh-- [ Speaking of science. ] By the way, the earth is round here.
[ A friendly tip for you, sir. ]
He laughs. ]
I would accuse you of falseness, but you have advantage over me, having been here for longer than I.
It does tell me that I have much to learn, however. This world is too different.
[ Regardless of the memories of his childhood floating in the back of his head, anyway. ]
This world's not real different from mine.
[ So he's got quite a head start, he realizes. ]
I mean, some things are. Like-- the war, and so many people having powers. And our cars don't fly, back home.
[ But the animals don't talk and the stars aren't people and there's no sailing off the edge of the world, so he feels comfortable saying it's not that different. ]
[ A lion god, and an immortal witch that's more or less dead so her long winter doesn't count anymore. Also, Father Christmas definitely has superpowers. ]
The rest of us are rather plain in comparison, so the... gifts we're given are very much startling.
[ Especially his own. ]
It's like that in mine, too. There aren't many people with powers.
[ Which would of course imply that there are some people who do have them. Matthew knows he needs to be careful in talking about that, but, he thinks, he probably doesn't have to be paranoid around Edmund. Lucy already knows what Ronan can do anyway, and Edmund is her brother, surely a trustworthy guy.
He looks back into the camera again. ]
I didn't have any before I got here, either. It's way weird at first but you can get used to it. Some people even figure their powers out right away.
[ Matthew... did not. ]
I got telekinesis. And I can tell when people are lying.
But the latter is quite useful.
[ If he were younger, he'd have worried about that. But he's no longer prone to lying — as much, anyway. ]
[ His nose wrinkles a little and then he laughs at the observation. ]
I guess it could be.
[ That particular power is kind of wasted on him, a boy who isn't clever enough to wonder why people are lying even when it happens. He finds it more awkward than anything else. ]
Being able to move things with your mind could make chores and errands a lot easier.
Yeah, you're right! [ He's still getting the hang of his power and its strange limitations. ] It's easier to get goals in soccer, too.
[ And then, because he's friendly and curious and will never figure out that this is a nosy question-- ]
What kind of powers did you get?
[ If you said football, Matthew, that might've made more sense to him.
And well, that powers question — ]
One let's me stay in control of my own mind. No one else can manipulate me to do their bidding. [ Which is great and useful, especially in a strange world where other people might have ominous powers that remove a man's autonomy. But with the other, well, Edmund just smiles. ] The other one is better left shown that spoken of, I think.
